Club races and Series

As an England Athletics affiliated running club, Orpington Road Runners enters teams in to a number of races each year, as well as encouraging individual members to represent the club at local races, where their are often team prizes available. The races and series which the club enters can differ slightly from year to year and has been affected by Covid, but the principle ones are as follows:

  • Kent Cross Country League - a winter league running from October to February for those who enjoy running up and down muddy hills. The league comprises a series of around 5 races which are normally within half an hour of Orpington.

  • Cross Country County Championships - consisting of a separate race for 'veterans' and an open race.

  • Kent Grand Prix - a series of around 10 road races normally running from January through to October. We encourage male and female members to enter these races, which can range from 7 miles up to a marathon. The club score points based on the position of its best male and female runners and has won the men's championship most recently in 2018, when the women's team finished runners up.

  • Local relay races - we regularly enter teams in to the Beckenham Relays; Swanley Park Relays; and Dino Dash Relay in Crystal Palace Park. We sometimes also have teams in the Will Bolton relays.

  • Long distance relays - the South Downs Relay and the Saxon Shore relay. The South Downs Relay is for those able to run 15-20 miles up and down hills at something close to 8 min mile pace to finish inside the time limit. The Saxon Shore relay, is a more accessible event, as it is shorter with a less demanding cut off time.

Where the club does not currently enter a team in to a team event and there is sufficient demand from members, the club may contribute to entry fees. Members can find out more here.
